For numerous years, the mill was operated by Mr. Green Berry Goodson, a white-bearded miller who ground Berry-grown corn into meal and grits. Water is piped directly from Berry&#8217;s reservoir lake to the wheel. As soon as primed, the force of gravity is sturdy enough to push the water up the stone column, and over the wheel, causing it to turn.\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mingus Mill<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cncmachinings.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/4298986677_3d81570e78.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><br \/>\n<i>Image by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/77759596@N00\/4298986677\">Frank Kehren<\/a><\/i><br \/>\nMingus Mill, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, North Carolina<\/p>\n<p>This 1886 turbine mill ground corn into meal and wheat into flour for more than fifty years for the mountain community close to Mingus Creek. In location of a wooden water wheel, a little steel turbine supplied energy to turn the mill&#8217;s stones and machinery. The National Park Service rehabilitated the mill in 1968, and Mingus Mill operates in the course of the summer season as an historical exhibit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.H.
