A Blast from the Past – from slide to film then scanned..
-This was another significant trip for me…. the one that genuinely sparked my interest in aviation. It’s my first trip that I have a conscious memory of.. YUL-LHR-YUL. I recall wanting to fly a VC-10, the plane of the day that was most fascinating for me however we ended up on a 707 which initially disappointed me…however, I loved it so much I never stopped looking at planes after. So here’s the BOAC 707 that pretty much started it all for me back in August 1970. A Qantas 707 VJet was parked next to us. Everything at Heathrow was amazing to me…it was my first airplane heaven LOL πŸ™‚ No registration number though sadly.. not even sure of the variant. BOAC eventually merged with BEA and formed British Airways.

Main identifying points: The Antennae at the top of it’s tail is the most recognizable feature of this aircraft. The fuselage looks like a stretched 737 and it has four small styled engines mounted on the wings..
Examples of Main Operators: This aircraft was, along with the DC-8, the primary inter-continental aircraft used by airlines world wide in the 1960s and 1970s. It was replaced by the Boeing 747, DC-10, L1011 and A300 in the late 1970s and 1980s. Few examples are left flying today. Many are cargo jets and most are located in Asia, Africa and South America. Iran Air still flies a handful in their region. John Travolta bought and revamped an old Qantas 707 and is flying it around the world today. The tail would look like the tail in the photo about (Red tail to the right of the BOAC 707 in the photo) That is likely your best bet at seeing one. The US military still flies a variant of the 707 as does NATO.

Samsung Electronics released 19kg fully automatic washing machine, capable of handling bulky winter jackets and beddings. Samsung applied large enough washing machine tub to wash king-size beddings and winter clothes all at the same time. The Magic Clean feature allows the users to pre-set the water temperatures at either 40℃ for normal washing cycle or 60℃ for heavy duty laundry.

-A terrasse with a view LOL πŸ™‚ There used to be annual air shows at Mirabel where part of the airport tarmac was used as a static display area for military and some commercial planes. I loved it because you could still get really close to scheduled flights like this Iberia 747-200 that for many years flew MAD-YUL-MEX… thus the little outdoor cafΓ© right there in front of the 747… Imagine this today LOL….!!? there’s just no way, the world isn’t as innocent anymore. Still though I was lucky enough to experience this and get this cool shot and enjoy the air show. I marked on the photo "Spring 1983"

Main Role: large capacity long range mainline jetliner
Basic design: Four engines double aisle wide body jet. Knows as a "Jumbo Jet"
Capacity: Roughly 395-500 passengers
Range: 9000km -12700km
First delivery date: 1970
Still in production in 2006: No
Easily confused for: ..nothing. It’s unique to itself but these two models can be easily confused for the 747-300 and 747-400.
Main identifying points: Look for the the "hump" or second floor at the front of the plane that houses the cockpit and upper deck cabin f the aircraft. Also the fact there are passenger seats more forward than the cockpit. No other jetliner has these features. Everything else is secondary: A very large and massive tail, 4 very large wing mounted engines. The 747-100 and 747-200 have antennae located a
at the wingtips facing backwards (seen best from under the plane on the ground while it’s in flight), 4 sets of main undercarriage landing gear. Early models of the -100 only had 3 second floor windows on each side of the upper deck. Later models have a regular set of closely positioned windows instead. Both versions has a standard short length upper deck compared to the 747-400 whose deck was lengthened significantly.
Examples of Main Operators: Today the 747-100 is pretty much out of service. They may be cargo carriers still flying it. JAL, ANA and I believe Northwest still fly the occasional 747-200. The main operators of it’s day were Pan Am, TWA, Lufthansa, BOAC, Air France, Air Canada, JAL, Qantas, Varig, United, Continental, Air India, Sabena, Swissair, SAS, Alitalia, Olympic among many.
